Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes Locking Up with Voyager Controller and Hopkins Trailer Adapter
Question:
I recently purchased this adapter and everything works when hooked up, except the trailer brakes lock up with just the slightest touch of the brakes and my voyager brake controller does not light up so I cant adjust the gain.

I recommend trying to reset the leveling sensor on your Tekonsha Voyager # 39510. I have attached a clip from the instructions to show how this must be done. If you have already tried this and it doesn't work then the next course of action is to test and make sure the brake controller is getting the correct power and that it is operating correctly.
Using a circuit tester, make sure that the black wire has constant 12V power and that the red and blue wires only receive power when you step on the brake pedal. The red wire is connected to your stop light switch so you should see more power on it than the blue wire when you are sitting still. You may not see much, if any, power on the blue wire while you are sitting still since this is a proportional controller that senses how much you are moving to determine how much power to send back to the trailer brakes.
Let me know what you find and I can help you troubleshoot further. I would say that the 12V power is being transferred over to your brake controller pin for your trailer via the adapter but if your trailer brakes aren't applied until you press on the brake pedal then that isn't the case.
