Recommended Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Short Bed  

Question:

I want a Strong slider that I would prefer to remotely operate, and, removing the hitch when not using would not take an act of Congress to remove some special mounting kit?. This is going to be my first 5th wheel trailer Article Wolf 295QSL8, 33ft , less than 10k pounds.

I have two great options for your 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD; one that is easy to use as it operates automatically, the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # DM8550022 with the Underbed Rail and Installation Kit part # DM8551010 or one that is easier to remove, the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16521 with the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit part # C16411-204.

The Demco Hijacker is great because you don't have to get in and out of the truck to engage the slider and it installs with an under-bed kit so you will have full truck bed access while it is removed. That said, the auto slide mechanism is heavy so it will take some muscle to move this. If you have an overhead winch or pulley system then you can use the Demco 5th Wheel Lifting Bracket part # DM6100 to help with this.

The Curt A-Series on the other hand will be easier to remove than most other sliding 5th wheel trailer hitches because it can be broken down into two pieces with only one pin removed. This allows you to remove the head and base separately which one person should be able to do on their own. This option however installs via above bed base rails so you will have these left behind once the hitch is removed.
