Do Rollers and Bunks on Boat Trailer Both Support Boat Weight

Question:

Hi, I have been told that the rollers support the weight of the boat since they contact the keel and the bunks are their to keep the boat latterly secure on the trailer. I just noticed a reply from Chris O. to a customer that said the opposite the bunks support the weight of the boat. I am asking because I have problems offloading and on-loading my boat to the trailer because the bunks are carrying the full weight of the boat hence the rollers dont even contact the boat. Help! thanks,

In general the bunks typically support most of the boat's weight and the rollers are mainly there to act as guides but they too also support some of the boat's weight. It sounds like the placement and height setting of the rollers on your trailer are in need of changing so that the rollers and the bunks support and guide the boat in the best way possible.

Another option you might consider is converting the bunks to roller bunks like the part # DL21741 which will allow your boat to roll off of the trailer with ease. These can mount directly on top of wood bunks as well.
