Wiring Help for Breakaway Box and Harness
Question:
The harness was pulled out of the king pin junction box. I believe I have everything wired correctly. However, I have 1 black wire from the trucks side and dont know where to connect it. I have connected one wire of the breakaway to a 8 gauge wire from the battery. I attached the other to ground, which I think is wrong. But, that black wire coming from the truck side - I just dont know where to put it. Its supposed to be hot per the trailer mfg. I think I do have the breakaway wrong too. Please help!

In order to determine if everything is wired correctly in regards to your 5th wheel harness, for example something like the Bargman # 50-97-410, since there are no universal wiring colors you are going to need to use Circuit Tester # PTW2979 to determine if you have the functions correct.
Additionally, for the breakaway box if yours does not have a built-in battery charger, you will splice one of the two wires from the breakaway switch into the trailer brake wire which is the one that runs from the trailer connector to the brakes. The other wire splices to the blue wire coming out of the battery box.
I have added links to three help articles for you which I highly recommend reading: one on trailer wiring, one on troubleshooting wiring, and one on installation of breakaway kits.
