Parts to Install New Trailer Roof Vent in Enclosed Trailer
Question:
I dont have a current roof vent, so no 14inch x 14inch hole. I want to put in a vent look at the MaxxAir unit. Do I just install on aluminium roof or do I need to build a frame underneath, or just put one side into the beams of course I could only use the frame on one side since they are spaced 16inch apart. Im just concerned because the vent will catch some air when driving down and road and didnt know if just sheet metal screws into the roof and tape would be enough to hold it securely THANKS

We have a complete vent installation kit # 344270KITW that includes hardware, butyl rubber tape and tubes of sealant to make your new vent installation secure and watertight. This install kit will work great with any 14 x 14 standard vent such as the manual model # V2092SP-29 or a 12V powered unit such as the MaxxAir MaxxFan Deluxe # MA00-07500K. You will need to make an opening in your trailer roof that is just slightly larger than the vent; a 14-1/4 x 14-1/4 opening is ideal.
It will be a good idea to take advantage of the presence of a structural roof beam to support one side of the vent's frame, but between that, the included screws and sealant you need to worry about the stability of the installation. You will want to make sure that you install your vent so that it faces away from the direction of travel, as shown in the linked photo of a customer's installation on a van roof.
If you select a 12V powered vent like the MaxxFan you'll need wiring and some butt connectors. For 2-conductor wire in 10-gauge we have # 10-2-1 (sold by the foot) and for butt connectors you can use # 05732-2. If you need ring terminals for making your battery power connection you can use # DW05705-1.
