Best Way to Add Length to Trailer Tongue to Allow Tailgate to Fold Down
Question:
I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra, towing a RV with Dry weight of 3736lbs, and 5,400 GVWR. Hitch weight is 420lbs. My question is about extenders. I need a hitch extender for the truck so that I can lower the tailgate completely down without hitting the RV tongue jack. What product do you suggest?

Expert Reply:
The Brophy Ball Mount 13-1/4" Long # BH20 is going to be your best option since hitch extenders cut the capacity of the hitch, they are used in by 50 percent due to added leverage and movement. A longer ball mount avoids that so as long as the # BH20 would be long enough to accomplish what you need it would be best solution.
You will also need a compatible hitch ball like # A-90 for a 2 inch diameter or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch diameter hitch ball with the 1-1/4 inch diameter shank.
