Parts Needed to Add a 7- and 4-Way Trailer Connector to a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500

Question:

I am replacing the stock hitch on my 2002 Dodge 2500, 8foot bed. I need a trailer connector for both the 4 ploe and the 7pole to fit my trailers. Do you have a dual type that plugs into the existing connector that detatches from my existing hitch?

If your Ram has the square plug for the wiring harness, you could use the Multi-Plug T-One Connector Assembly, # 20135, to add a 4 and 7-Way connector.

If you have a different wiring situation, to add a 7-Way and 4-Way trailer connector to your 2002 Dodge Ram, you will need to use # 37185. You will need to plug in the existing 4-Way that you have on the truck into the 37185. You will then need to ground the white wire to the truck frame.

The purple wire is for reverse lights on the trailer (if present). Attach this wire to a reverse light wire on the truck. If the trailer does not have reverse lights you can tape up this wire and stow it out of the way.

The blue and black wires will need to be hardwired as well. Using about 25 feet or so of wire # 10-2-1, attach the black to black and blue to white. Route the other end to the front of the truck avoiding areas that may pinch or burn the wire. The black wire will attach to the positive battery terminal via a 40 amp circuit breaker, # PK54540.

The white wire will get routed to a connector that is located under the drivers side wheel well. There is a blue wire inside that goes to a brake controller adpater port in the vehicle cab.

For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885, and wiring harness # 3020-P. The P2 is one of our most popular controllers because it is easy to set up and easy to use.
