Does Alternator Need to Be Upgraded on 2000 Ford F-150 When Installing Flex-a-lite Electric Fan
Question:
I have a 2000 F-150 4x4 5.4. I am looking to replace the clutch fan with the electric fan kit, but I was wondering if I needed to upgrade the alternator before I do. I think mine is a 130amp. I tow a 3000lb pop up trailer up some steep mountain ranges.

When installing the Flex-a-lite Direct Fit Dual Electric Radiator Fan # FLX270 on your 2000 Ford F-150 with the 5.4L engine you should not need to upgrade the alternator. This unit features a power draw of just 28 amps so your stock alternator will be big enough.
This electric fan will do a really nice job of improving the truck's overall performance, especially when towing. It can recover up to 17 horsepower and 20 foot pounds of toque when used to replace a factory clutch fan like what you are doing.
