Recommended Winch for 4,500 lb - 5,000 lb Boat Being Winched a Short Distance

Question:

Hi, I have a 2000 Sea ray 210 Sundeck. the dry weight is 3500#. The trailer has carpeted wooden bunks. The launches we typically go to do not have a steep incline. We drive the boat onto the trailer as far as possible. Usually within 3 feet of the winch. Also, there are people in the boat when winching. Probably 1200# or so including gas. Id like a strap winch if possible with a short handle. What would you recommend? Thank you.

Thanks for all that info, and in regards to capacity, a couple of things come into play, including the bunks and the distance you are winching. So while wooden bunks hinder the winch capacity, the fact you are only going a few feet is certainly a bonus so it is safe to assume the boat-size-to-winch capacity for your situation is in the neighborhood of 2-to-1, meaning for a boat that is in the 4,500 lb to 5,000 lb range you will need at least a 2,500 lb or so capacity winch.

By far the best option for you is the Fulton XLT, 2-Speed Trailer Winch # F142425 because this winch will have the capacity you need, and it includes a strap like you wanted.

This winch has a 3,200 lb capacity and includes a 20' x 2" strap as well as the necessary mounting hardware. This is an extremely reliable and durable winch.

I have added a link to a video review of the winch for you to check out.
