What is the Advantage of Using Plug-In Adapter for a Brake Controller on a 2007 Toyota Tacoma
Question:
I have a 2007 Tacoma with factory installed 7-wire connector. I have the OEM under dash controller pigtail, that came with the truck. Not just the connector, but the pigtail that plugs into it. What, if any, is the advantage of getting your vehicle specific controller, with an adapter pigtail over using the one I have, with the non-specific controller?

Expert Reply:
The advantage of using the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3040-P to use the Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160 on your 2007 Toyota Tacoma is that there is no splicing involved. You simply plug the adapter into the port under your dash, make the ground connection, and then connect your brake controller.
If by OEM pigtail you are saying there is a connector with pigtails on it then you can just purchase the Primus IQ and splice the included pigtail to the pigtail under your dash with some butt connectors. The only problem is that if you end up wanting to use a different controller (non-Tekonsha) in the future then you will either need to purchase the plug-in adapter for that controller or cut off where you spliced these pigtails together.
