Trobleshooting Lid Lift Function on Maxxair 7500 Fan

Question:

Hello, the lid on my Maxxair 7500 is getting stuck opening and closing. The motor powers on and begins to either open or close but then it gets stuck. If I help it by turning the manual knob, then it will engage and open or close. Thanks for helping.

Since the lid motor on your MaxxAir 7500 vent with powered lift # MA00-07500K is operating but the lid stops midway unless you give it some manual assistance the issue is either power-related or the result of a damaged operator mechanism # MA10-20281K-1AF.

My tech contact at MaxxAir said that the behavior you describe is often related to low available input power. The vent will detect if the incoming operating voltage is low or marginal and it will stop the lid opening. This is a safety feature that stops the vent from opening if the circuitry thinks you may not have enough battery power for the lid to close, which could expose the fan motor to water. It is the fan's way of protecting itself from rain exposure.

If you have a volt meter like # PT89ZR you can test the wiring right at the fan power input to see if you have at least 12 volts. The black wire is power and the white wire is ground. If you do not have a tester you can try putting the battery on charge with an AC-powered battery charger like # 329-GENIUS5. This will let you know the battery's overall condition and its state of charge. If the battery that powers the fan has been in service a long time it may no longer take a full charge.
