Is Frame Bolt of 2012 Smart fortwo Difficult to Remove
Question:
I bought your curt hitch and took it to Uhaul to be installed. The young man worked 2 hrs trying to remove the two top bolts. I couldn’t stay in shop with him so I couldn’t watch He used a ratchet, breaker bar, impact air drive wrench, Sprayed bolts with rust loosener finally said he couldn’t get them loose. Are these bolts that difficult to loosen? In your video the tech just used a ratchet and they came loose easily. Have you got any ideas how to break them loose? I’m not sure the young man knew what he was doing. I’ve had some health issues and don’t have a car lift to get under car myself. Video makes it look pretty straight forward. Got any ideas. Thanks

We've installed the Curt hitch part # C11020 a couple times and did not have any issues getting any of the hardware loose on the vehicle. Hopefully the guy didn't destroy the bolt in the process of trying to get it out but hopefully a mechanic with more experience would have better luck. If you are in a climate that sees a lot of salt and snow it is possible the bolt could be corroded really bad but even then the bolt should still come out. Several applications of penetrating lube and enough leverage should take care of it as long as he didn't ruin the head of the bolt.
