Can Trailers Battery be Charged When Towed

Question:

I have a 1963 RV that I have totally restored. I have wired it to charge the battery from shore power. I have a 7 prong and 4 prong connection on my pickup. Can I use the 4 prong to charge the RV battery while driving.

4-Way trailer wiring does not carry a 12 volt accessory circuit for charging a battery but the 7-way you are aready using does carry this circuit. The 1:00 pin of the connector is designed for exactly what you are wanting to do. If you run 10 gauge wire from this to the positive power post of the battery in the trailer it will get a maintenance charge when towing.

We offer 10 gauge wire by the foot as part # 10-1-1.
