Brake Controller Recommendation for 2018 VW Atlas SEL Premium with 7-Way
Question:
I have a 2018 VW Atlas SEL Premium. It has been pre-wired for towing, and already has a 7-pin connector. When connected to a trailer, it controls all the lights properly, but has no brake control. Will this Tekonsha Primus IQ brake controller work with my vehicle, and if so, do you have any instructions on how to install it on a VW Atlas? Ive talked to several different VW dealers and they seem useless, and the RV dealers in my area dont have a clue when it comes to foreign cars... The vehicle was supposed to come ready to towso Im kind of annoyed. Hoping you guys can help me out! Thanks!

The Tekonsha Primus part # TK90160 can be used to control the trailer brakes but it will require hardwiring as there isn't an install plug under the dash of your vehicle to make this easy. Volkswagen vehicles (and most German vehicles) can be difficult as the brake signal needed to activate the controller is harder to find if not almost impossible in some cases. So instead I have a MUCH easier solution that will give you a better controller.
I recommend the Curt Echo Mobile part # C51180 which basically just plugs into your 7-way, syncs to your smartphone, and your ready to go. It gives you a more advanced proportional sensor too to better activate the brake in sync with your vehicle brakes too.
