Distance From the Ground to the Cradle on the 3 Bike Hitch Mount Folding Rack Part # 63123
Question:
I need to know the distance up from the center of the hitch so I can determine the ground clearance when installed on my Harley Davidson Trike. What I have is a small folding electric wheelchair that weighs 60 pounds that I want to take with me.

Helpful Expert Reply:
The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest cradle is around 40" tall whereas the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the furthest cradle is around 42" tall. Please note the 3 Bike Hitch Mount Folding Rack part # 63123 has a 35 lb per bike weight capacity because that is what each cradle is rated for. The same will hold true for all hanging bike racks like the above. Therefore, you cannot use the above to haul your 60 lb wheelchair. Instead, you would need to use a cargo carrier, likely class I rated, the 19x47 Curt Cargo Carrier part # C18110. The Ratchet Tie Down Straps w/ Storage Bag part # ETBMB-05852 can then be used to secure the wheelchair to the carrier. This option will most likely be easier to load/unload as well.
