How To Use the Factory Brake Controller Wiring Harness on a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

My 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee came with a wiring connector and pigtails - looks like the side that plugs into the car panel. I assume I match and connect the wiring colors to the connector pig tails on the brake controller for essentially plug and playinch connectivity?

Correct, all you will need to do to install a brake controller on your 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee is attach the factory brake controller pigtail that came with your vehicle to the one that comes with the brake controller. There will be blunt cut ends on each harness so once you strip some of the jacket off, you can then attach them with the included butt connectors.

If you don't already have a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Primus IQ part # TK90160. The Primus IQ is an excellent brake controller mostly due to its reliability. It has a lifetime warranty and can easily be transferred from vehicle to vehicle. The major benefits of this brake controller are that it has integrated safeguards to protect your vehicle, trailer, and the controller. It also has a customizable LCD display which is easy to use, more so than most standard brake controllers of its kind.

Please note that if you don't want to do any splicing with the harness that your vehicle came with, then you can use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # TK93VR instead which will be completely plug and play. This is essentially the same harness that we will make above with the factory pigtail. I have attached an install video for you that shows where the brake controller port is located on your Grand Cherokee.
