Will Trailer Hitch Adapter on 2004 Honda Accord Allow Use of Motorcycle Dolly

Question:

Hello, I have a honda accord with a class 1 hitch 200 lbs gross tow weight. Would it be possible to use a class two adapter 2 inch down to 1-1/4 inch in order to us a motorcycle tow dolly for a scooter weighing 500 lbs? The dolly weighs approximately 60 lbs so I assume altogether the weight would be under 600lbs and if the adapter reduces by 50 I am wondering if this is still safe? Thank you for any support you can provide!

The use of an adapter such as the Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver # HTAD will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch on your 2004 Honda Accord by 50 percent.

With a Class I hitch like the Draw-Tite # 24787 on your '04 Accord with a 200 lb tongue weight capacity, the use of an adapter reduces it to 100 lbs. A 60 lb dolly and 500 lb scooter will exceed the tongue weight capacity and is not something I recommend doing.
