Comparing 47 and 53 WingBar Evo Crossbars for a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk

Question:

Just curious is 53 inch is a better option over 47? What would the advantages and disadvantages be for my 2015 Jeep Cherokee trailhawk? Thank you!

The advantage of using the 53" WingBar Evo Crossbars # TH711400 over the 47" part # TH711200 is that you have more crossbar space to potentially hold more equipment. The only problem here is that the WingBar Evo crossbars only have a limited amount of space on the underside where your Evo Raised Rail Feet # TH710401 connect to the raised rails on your 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. I do have another option for you to use longer crossbars but if you are wanting to stick with the Thule WingBar Evo roof rack then you need to stay with the 47" length.

Yakima actually offers longer crossbar lengths for your Trailhawk. They recommend either using the 50" # Y00425 or 60" # Y00426 JetStream crossbars with their TimberLine Towers # Y33TR. The Yakima JetStream bars are the equivalent of the Thule WingBar Evo crossbars but the biggest difference is that the JetStream bars have a slot that extends the entire length of the crossbars for the TimberLine Towers to fit in.

As far as weight capacity goes Thule says that their rack with the 47" bars is rated for 165 lbs while the Yakima option has a weight rating of 150 lbs. Since both roof rack options are excellent choices it really just boils down to do you want the longer crossbars or the smaller weight capacity. Keep in mind that whatever carrier you but on your roof rack (whether it is a bike rack, cargo carrier, or cargo basket) will also count towards that weight capacity.

If you let me know what you plan on using your roof rack for I can offer additional insight and carrier recommendations if necessary.
