How to Remove Old Butt Connector to Install New Trailer Tail Lights
Question:
I ordered theses trailer lights or a similar model from you, but have a question as to how to remove the old lights before I install the new ones. I have attached two pictures of the light fixtures in question on my horse trailer. As you can see, they are in bad shape and are in need of renewal. I am a novice at this, but I can see that the wire from the trailer is joined to the wire from the lights via a blue connector see attached photos. I cant seem to separate the two wires. Is there a trick to this?

When a butt connector is used to connect your wiring you will simply need to cut the butt connector off on the trailer side. You should be able to see some metal inside the butt connector that has been crimped down. Try to cut the wiring as close to that as possible so that you don't lose too much of it.
Once the wire is cut just strip some of it back and use new butt connectors for the installation. I recommend using heat shrink butt connectors like part # DW05745-5 as they provide an excellent seal against any corrosion or water that may try to get in.
