If only one of your four brake assemblies is locking up then your brake controller isn't the issue, it is the wiring on your trailer. If your brake controller was messing up then you would be experiencing issues on all four of your brake assemblies.

What you need to do is look behind the front left brake assembly and locate the two wires. One is for power and one is for ground. Double check that the connections are good and then check the ground connection making sure that it is installed on a clean, bare-metal surface. If all of that looks good then the next step is to follow the power wire up to the 7-Way on your trailer. Be sure to note any places that have bent or exposed wiring and replace as necessary.

To replace your wiring you will need 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 and Butt Connectors # DW05745-5.

You may also want to check the brake assembly for any uneven wear and replace it as well as the brakes on the other side of the same axle. You should have a hub/drum assembly that looks like part # 42866UC3-EZ. I have attached an installation video of this assembly on a trailer for you to check out how to remove your current hub/drum. If your brakes need replacing you should need the part # AKEBRK-7-SA which has 12" x 2" brakes. An installation video for these has been attached as well.

After testing and replacing wiring if you are still having problems then it would be best to take your trailer to a shop so they can physically inspect it.
