It sounds like you may have the Hopkins Towing Solutions Trailer Brake Controller part 47285 as this would make sense for the E1 and E2 codes you are receiving. If this is the case then the E1 codes means there is not a trailer connected and the E2 code means there is a short on the blue brake output wire. In order to find this short you will need to trace the blue brake output wire from the brake controller all the way back to the braking assemblies paying special attention to the trailer connectors. If you have access to a different trailer/tow vehicle then you can easily determine which side the issues is occurring on as well.

If you cannot find the short on the blue brake output wire then I recommend just replacing it with part # 10-1-1. If the brake controller still shows E2 after the above is completed we will want to test it and see if there was an internal issue. In order to do this we would sever the blue wire and then check for 12 volt power with the brake controller turned all the way up and with the manual override applied. If there is not 12 volts then the controller is bad and it will need to be replaced for which I recommend using the Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller part # 39510.
