How To Create Bedside Clearance While Towing with a 2019 Ford F-250
Question:
Hi, We recently bought a 2019 F250 super duty to tow our 99 sundowner 2 horse gooseneck trailer. The truck is higher than our previous truck and the gooseneck is hitting the tailgate when we go uphills. Would a 5th wheel tailgate help, order we need to raise the trailer. Thanks

The 5th wheel tailgate that I recommend for your 2019 Ford F-250 is the Stromberg Carlson 4000 Series 5th Wheel Louvered Tailgate part # VG-15-4000 which is currently the only option we have for you at this time. As you can see on the product page for the tailgate, there is a cut-out in the center which measures about 10-1/2" deep. If the part of your trailer you are referring to sits above this cut-out then the tailgate may fix your issue but as I am not really sure what part you are referring to, I would not be able to give an exact yes or no answer.
However, if you do not have at least 6" of clearance between the top of the bedside and bottom of the loft on your trailer while level then you will first want to try and adjust the coupler but as this would likely take the trailer out of level, you will need to raise the trailer. If you have round tube axles on your trailer in which the leaf springs are underneath then we do have an option for you in the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit part # K71-384-00 for 2-3/8" diameter axles or part # K71-385-00 for 3" diameter axles. These kits will raise the trailer equal to the height of the leaf spring stack, height of the leaf spring seat, and height of the axle tube.
If you do not have a round tube axle or your leaf springs are over the axle tube then please let me know.
