Recommended Hitch and Sidewinder for 2014 Ram 1500 5-1/2 Foot Bed with Air Bag Suspension
Question:
Hello, I was hoping you could give me some suggestions with the information below. Thanks for your help in advance. I have the following: 2014 Ram 1500 short box 5-7 I installed aftermarket airbags in the rear suspension. They sit on the inside of the coil spring suspension. The 5th wheel camper we are looking at is 8 ft wide and has a Lippert pin box LC128-029089, picture attached. Dry weight is 9100 lbs, and toungue weight is 1700 lbs Could you please give me a recommendation or suggestion on what you would use in this case. The air ride on the sidewinder is not a must I could go either way so what are your thoughts on that. Thanks again for any help you can offer.

I reached out to my contact at Lippert for the cross-reference and you have the 1621 pin box.
For your 2014 Ram 1500 with 5-1/2 foot bed, I recommend the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50142-58 and the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - 16,000 lbs # RP30047. This will give you a solid hitch combination.
Then due to the short bed I do recommend a Sidewinder, but due to the air bags you already have, I don't recommend the 5th Airborne # RP61422 option. Sometimes having air ride in two locations is counter productive, so I recommend using # RP34FR and then custom wedge # SWW-03 for a secure fit.
This system will give you the capacity you need and will also give you the turning clearances you need. This will make towing your trailer easy and enjoyable.
