If your Ram was factory equipped with either the 4-pole or 7-way trailer connector, the wiring adapter you referenced, part # HM47755 would plug into the connector under the dash. The connector can be found on top of the white box on the firewall behind the emergency brake pedal. If your truck has the 7-way, the install will be complete.

If you have the factory 4-pole, the brake output circuit is not run from the under dash connector back to the rear of the truck. You will need an adapter, part # 37185. Plug the adapter into the existing 4-pole. The remaining wires on the adapter connect as follows:

The black wire is extended with a length of 10 gauge wire and connected to the positive battery terminal via a 40 amp circuit breaker, part # 9510. The blue wire would also be extended and ran to the engine compartment and through the firewall. Cut the blue wire on the HM47755 adapter, and connect to the wire ran through the firewall.
The white wire grounds to the truck frame. The purple wire is typically used for reverse lights on the trailer. If needed, this circuit can be tapped into the reverse light circuit on the truck. Otherwise, cap the wire off and tuck it up out of the way.

If you have no trailer connector, there will be no connector under the dash, and the controller will need to be hardwired. In addition to the controller, you will need the Brake Controller Install Kit, part # ETBC7 and a 4-pole connector, part # 118329. I will link you to instructions for the Install Kit, as well as other FAQ information relating to brake controllers.
