Recommended Wiring and Brake Controller for 2019 Kia Sorento with Factory Tow Package

Question:

Kia put a tow package on my 2019 Sorento The tow package Kia put on my 2019 Sorento cannot pull our popup camper, the plug is incorrect. I told them I wanted a vehicle that could pull up to 5000 lbs and a tow package that can pull our popup camper. We were going to go camping a few weeks ago and realized the plug was wrong. I do not want to have to get an adapter, thats why I wanted the dealership to add the tow package when we bought the car. Any thoughts???

There is a 2019 Kia Sorento that can pull up to 5,000 lbs. Often dealers need more information to get you exactly what you desire and at times that isn't a factory option. To my knowledge the factory tow package on the Sorento does not give you a 7-way but only a 4-way. If you don't have the 4-way, you will need to start there with the Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56332. It sounds like you already have this connector.

Next you will need an adapter, wiring, and a brake controller. I recommend using the wiring kit # ETBC7 which will give you that 4-way to 7-way adapter, the wiring, the circuit breakers, and the butt connectors needed. I've attached an article and video to assist. Then I recommend using the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional # RED44FR for a clean look in your new vehicle. I've attached a couple of videos to assist as well as attached an article to help. Unfortunately hardwiring your vehicle is the only option to allow you to tow your popup camper.

If the hitch they put on your vehicle isn't rated strong enough, then I recommend installing the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75908 which is rated for that 5,000 lb towing capacity

We don't have any specific installer recommendations in Tennessee, but I can say that any local mechanic/shop with a good reputation should be able to handle this install without issues. You can use the install instructions attached on the product pages to get a good estimate before you have to drop the keys off.
