Recommendation to Replace ST225/75R15 Tires with Smaller Tires for Wheel Well Clearance on Trailer

Question:

I have a 40ft/9000lbs when empty trailer that I need to put tires on but the standard 225/75/15 and 7.00-15 LT tires are too tall due to the bathroom being remodeled and the floor slightly lowered. What size tie and load rating would best fit?

I am not sure how much smaller of a tire you are needing to ensure proper wheel well clearance on your trailer, but we do have a nice selection of ST205/75R15 trailer tires that will be slightly smaller than your current 225/75R15 units and could also be mounted to your existing wheels as long as the wheel is 6 or 6-1/2 inches wide.

An ST205/75R15 tire will be about 1.2 inches shorter in overall height/diameter than what you currently have. If this will work I recommend the Provider Radial Trailer Tire # TR225LRE that features a maximum load of 2,830 pounds at 80 psi and an excellent speed rating of 81 mph. This would give you a combined load rating of 11,320 pounds for all 4 tires.

If you want to keep your current tires and your trailer uses double-eye leaf springs then another option is to move the springs to the top of the axle with an Over-Under Kit. This will raise your trailer by the height of the leaf spring stack and axle. If you have a 2-3/8 inch diameter axle you can use part # K71-384-00 and for a 3 inch axle you will use part # K71-385-00
