If you already have a brake controller that connects via 4 wires, like the popular Prodigy P3 # 90195, then you will need a 4-Way wiring harness like the recommended T-One # 118526 and the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. The T-One provides the standard tail light functions from your 2016 Kia Sportage to your trailer and then the ETBC7 kit adds the 12V and brake controller functions as well.

Attached is an installation of the T-One on a similar Sportage and the ETBC7 on a Kia Sorento for you to reference the installation.

If you don't already have a brake controller then I highly recommend installing the T-One along with the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit # ETBC7L instead and using the Curt Echo # C51180 as your brake controller. This way you just have to route the power wire up to your battery and then use your smartphone to customize the braking action of the Echo. As long as you have an Apple device that as the 8.0 or Newer OS or an Android device with the 4.4 or newer OS then you are good to go!

We also have trailer hitches and ball mounts to complete your towing setup. If you don't already have these then I recommend the Draw-Tite # 75717 because of the added mounting bracket for your wiring and the ball mount kit # 989900. Attached is an installation video for this trailer hitch and a helpful article so you can make sure the 3/4" rise/2" drop and 2-3/4" rise/4" drop ball mounts are correct for your towing application.
