Recommended Trailer Hitch to Tow Light Trailer with 2017 Kia Soul
Question:
I would like to add a hitch to my 2017 Kia soul to pull a cargo trailer. Can I pull a 5x8 cargo trailer loaded with boxes using a hitch? or should I only pull a 4x8 cargo trailer? and which hitch is the best one for my needs? I see there are two options for my car.

When determining what type of trailer you can tow with your Kia Soul you will want to focus on its loaded weight. The actual size, whether it's a 4x8 or 5x8, is not as much of a concern. I tried looking up the towing capacity of your 2017 Kia Soul but I wasn't able to track down an official number.
Before proceeding I highly recommend checking your copy of the vehicle's owner's manual for its capacity. You can also check with a local Kia dealer and they will be able to provide you with this information.
For a trailer hitch that will work well on your Kia Soul I recommend the Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame Receiver Hitch # 24915 because of its simple install process and hidden design where only the 1-1/4 inch receiver is visible. This Class I hitch has a 2,000 pound towing capacity. You will need to adhere to whichever limit is lower, the hitch's or your vehicle's (as listed in the owner's manual).
I have attached an installation video that you can use for reference.
In order to tow a trailer you will also need to add a wiring harness. For this I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118637 that installs by simply plugging into factory ports behind the tail lights and running the hot lead up to the battery. This will provide you with a 4-Way connector to connect with a trailer and power its basic signal lights.
I have again attached an installation video for you to check out.
Lastly you will need a ball mount and hitch ball, such as the Draw-Tite Drawbar # 3593 and 1-7/8 inch # 19256 or 2 inch # 19258 Hitch Ball. This particular ball mount has a 2-1/8 inch rise or a 2-3/4 inch drop. I have attached a great article that explains how to choose the best ball mount to pull a trailer level along with a link that will take you to our ball mount selection in case this one doesn't have a sufficient rise or drop.
I have also included a couple articles on trailer towing that you might find helpful.
