Installation of 7-Way and Connecting Blue Wire on 1998 Dodge Ram 1500

Question:

I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 with the towing package port. I had to add a T-one and now Im adding a 7 way plug for my camper. The blue wire from the 7 way is pulled inside the cab but which wire do I connect it to? I have the pig tail that plugs the brake controller into the port for the towing package. Do I connect the blue wire from the 7 way to the brake controller? Thank you,

The Blue wire from the 7-way should be connected, to the Blue wire from the brake controller. Typically the Blue wire is ran back along the frame rail and terminated near the rear of the truck. If you cannot locate this wire, you can just run the Blue wire from the 7-way to the Blue wire on the brake controller.

If you have not already purchased a 7-way, I would recommend using the Brake Controller 4 and 7 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. The # ETBC7 kit includes all the wiring and circuit breakers needed to install a 7-way and brake controller on your 1998 Dodge Ram 1500.

Since you will be running the Blue wire up, I would recommend hard-wiring the brake controller to your truck. You will need to run the Black wire from the 7-way to the positive battery terminal via a 40 amp circuit breaker and the Black wire from the brake controller to the positive battery terminal via circuit breaker size specified in brake controller instructions. The White wire from the brake controller will be grounded and the Red wire will connect to the stoplight switch near the brake pedal. The stoplight switch is the wire that only has signal when the brakes on the vehicle are activated.

I have linked instructions for the Brake Controller 4 and 7 Way Installation Kit.
