how far in do steps sit when in up right latched position, and door closed? thank you

The distance you are referring to on the SolidStep Manual Fold-Down Steps part # LC791572 is going to vary depending on where you install the mounting flange. However, the distance from the center of the latch that get installed inside the door frame to the outer end of the step is 10-1/2" which you can see in the attached photo.
