Weight Distribution for a Micro Minnie 2108DS Travel Trailer

Question:

Good morning, I want to order a blue ox swaypro hitch but Im not sure if i need the one for an underslung coupler. I am having a micro minnie 2108 ds delivered this month and by looking at photos I dont think it is an underslung hitch. Are you familiar with the micro minnies....

I took a look at several pictures of the 2108DS Micro Minnie trailers and they have a regular coupler and not a bottom-mount or underslung style coupler. Your particular model has a 7,000 pound gross trailer weight and dry it weighs 3,900 pounds. The dry tongue weight is 410 pounds meaning it is 10.5 percent of the gross trailer weight. Going by that same 10.5 percent the tongue weight can be as much as 735 pounds.

The goal is to use a weight distribution system that puts the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, in the middle of a weight distribution system's range. I assume that when you are loaded and ready to tow (including full LP tanks) your tongue weight will increase enough to be able to use Blue Ox system # BXW0750 which is rated for 550 to 750 pounds tongue weight.

But what I recommend is to use Fastway system # FA92-00-0800 which is rated for 400 to 800 pounds and covers the whole range of possible tongue weights for your particular trailer. It also includes built in sway control and narrow frame brackets that have a much better mounting range than anything Blue Ox has. And to be honest the Blue Ox sway control just isn't very good.

For either system you will need a ball such as # 63836. I have included some helpful links on weight distribution and determining tongue weight for you.
