Best Weight Distribution System for Towing a Winnebago Micro Minnie Winnie 2108DS

Question:

WE are purchasing the Winnebago Micro Minnie Winnie 2108DS. Our previous trailer was a 26 foot fifth wheel, GTW 12000, that we pulled with a Ford 250, V-10 with an 8 foot bed. Trailer pulling is new to us and our dealer is not very helpful. What is the best weight distribution hitch for us, with sway control? 2 inch ball or 2 5/8 4 inch or 8 inch ? We are so confused!

When looking into purchasing a Weight Distribution (WD) system you want to find one with a Tongue Weight (TW) range that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your towing setup falls in the middle of. To find the TTW of your towing setup you will need to add the TW of your fully loaded and ready-to-go trailer, which you can use part # e99044 for, along with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Keep in mind that a properly loaded trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the loaded weight of your trailer.

Since it looks like your Winnebago Micro Minnie Winnie 2108DS has a GVWR of 7,000 lbs we can estimate that your fully loaded TW will sit between 700 lbs and 1,050 lbs. This does not include any cargo behind your rear axle and since it is a projected TW you will still need to find your actual TTW.

One of the best WD systems out there is the Reese Strait-Line. For your application the part # RP66084 would be perfect. It has a TW range of 600 lbs - 1,200 lbs and provides one of the best (if not THE best) sway-controls on the market. The lift-brackets are positioned about 30" from the hitch ball and require about 5-1/2" of space on the frame so you will want to check to make sure that your trailer has adequate room.

I wasn't able to find the coupler size but I'm sure your dealer would be able to help you verify what it has. If you already have the trailer in your possession the hitch ball size should be stamped on the coupler somewhere. For a 2" hitch ball use part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16" hitch ball use part # 19286.

I have attached a review video and some helpful articles on bumper pull towing that you can check out.
