Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 2013 Ford F-250 towing 7,700 lb Trailer

Question:

I have no experience with trailering and I feel like I need all the help I can get from a WD/sway control hitch. My food concession trailer weighs about 7,700lb and is 18ft long. Im not sure if this matters, but the last 5 feet of the trailer is an open porch with an 800lb smoker on the back center. Vehicle is 2013 f250 with 2- inch receiver. I am considering the Equalizer and the Curt trutrack. Im not sure if I should get a 10,000/1,000 or 12,000/1,200 system. The trailer has a generator and two large propane tanks mounted on the A frame of the trailer. I am not sure if this will affect the tongue weight. Should I just calculate the tongue weight as 10-15 of the total trailer weight of 7,600lb? Is one system better than the other for sway control or weight distribution? Thank you for any advice!

You are on the right track as it sounds like you know that the tongue weight figure is what you base a weight distribution system on. Since you have a trailer with a few non-standard accessories I'd recommend finding out exactly what your tongue weight is as it would be hard to estimate. You should also consider that any weight behind your truck's rear axle needs to be counted as tongue weight too. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out. Or you can use a tongue weight scale like the # e99044 but I realize this is kind of pricey.

Based on the picture of your hitch that you sent in a great solution would be the Equal-I-Zer kit part # EQ37120ET most likely. Assuming your trailer weight is below the capacity of your truck this system has a tongue weight range of 800-1,200 lb and is superior to the Curt systems. The Curt systems aren't terrible, but the Equal-i-Zer kits are considered by many to be the best performing and most reliable on the market. But let me know how the dimensions of your frame channels and how far back that platform is from the coupler ball center. You'll need about 29 inches of clearance here to mount the hangers. If you don't have that we'll have to go a different route.
