Solution for Lost 7-Way Retaining Clip that Attaches to Socket
Question:
As per your recomendation we bought the 40940 to replace a broken 7 way. It fits great but we still cant use it. The locking clip had also broke and one was not included with the part. We cant find one anywhere. Its an item that can be made for a few pennies. You may want to start including one with the 7 way connectors that need it. Can you help? Also: A lot of instructions show mounting on the underside of the bumper. At that location it is easy to break while backing up to a gravel pile or hard snow. It can also happen like to us when off loading a riding mower by putting the back wheels in a dry ditch which lets you drive onto the other side of the ditch without using ramps. If you hit the otherside of the ditch the connector assembly gets broken and/or knocked off. We moved the license plate over to the right and hole sawed a hole to the left of the plate and installed it there.

The clip that you are referring to that holds the 7-way plug to the socket is typically found on the connector which is why the # HM40940 does not come with it. I wish we sold that piece by itself but only way to get it is to go with a new harness like part # PK11998 and you'd be set.
I like where you mounted the 7-way too. A lot of factory 7-ways install in similar places which helps prevent accidental damage like the scenarios you described.
