Can Dexter Brakes for 6,000 Pound Axle be Used on a 5,200 Pound Axle

Question:

I have a 5,200 lb. Standard Spring Dexter trailer axle with a 3inch diameter tube 3/16inch wall thickness with a 5 bolt brake mount flange. The hub fits allows for a 12x2inch brake. Is there any reason these wont fit even though your site has them listed for a 6k axle?

Expert Reply:

Since the trailer has 12 by 2 inch hubs the Dexter Axle brake assemblies, part # 23-112-113, will fit just fine. They're rated up to 6,000 pounds as a maximum but a 5,200 pound axle uses the same size brakes, generally.

I've linked a video on the brakes as well you might want to check out.
