Can ST205/75R15 Tires and Wheels be Replaced with ST225/75R15 Tires and Wheels on Trailer
Question:
Hello, I currently have ST205/75 R15 tires with 15 x 5 wheels with 5 on 4 1/2 lugs 1/2-20 studs. My enclosed trailer has tandem 3500# axles. Can I upgrade to part # TA86MR wheel and tire package ST225/75R15 if I have the clearances? As far as I can tell they will fit my hubs and there is a slighter larger overall outside tire diameter of 1.25inch and a cross section width increase of .78. Thanks

You can absolutely replace the existing ST205/75R15 tires and wheels on your trailer with the slightly larger Provider ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 15" Vesper Silver Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - LRD # TA86MR. They will fit your current hubs without a problem.
As you mentioned in your question the only potential concern would be with wheel well clearance but this isn't too big of a change. If you aren't currently cutting it close with clearance then you won't have any issues with this new tire and wheel, either. The difference in overall diameter/height is 1.3 inches (27.1 inches to 28.31 inches) and the difference in width is just 0.8 of an inch (8.1 inches to 8.78 inches). Also keep in mind that with the height only half of that difference will actually affect your clearance since the other half is below the axle.
This new tire and wheel combo (in addition to the really sleek look) will upgrade you to a maximum load of 2,540 pounds at 65 psi, a maximum speed rating of 75 mph, and an aluminum wheel with which you don't have to worry about rust and corrosion.
