Expert Reply:
If your 2002 GMC Sierra has the factory 7-Way tow package wiring installed on it then the under hood wiring is most likely connected to the studs that are found at the power distribution box.
If your truck does not have the factory 7-Way tow package wiring, then you will need to connect the wires under the hood. We have a detailed article that shows where to connect the under hood wires, see link, and explains where to attach the brake controller output wire and 12 volt power lead for attachment to a 7-Way connector at the rear of the truck.
If you do not have factory tow package wiring you will need the brake controller installation kit, # ETBC7, a brake controller adapter, # 3025-P or # 3025-S, and a brake controller, to complete the installation. With a factory 7-Way tow package you will only need the brake controller and the appropriate adapter.
The P-3 brake controller, # 90195, is one of our best brake controllers and features diagnostic troubleshooting codes and easy to use settings and display.
