3,500 lb Trailer Axle for Homemade Trailer

Question:

Students built a 5 x10 trailer 5 foot 5 inches wide. Is there a 3500 lbs axle that will fit this?

There are 3,500 lb axles that have dimensions that are longer than the 66 inches that you said your students trailer was, such as the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam # T3584F-8974 which measures 74 inches from spring center to spring center and 89 inches from hub face to hub face. There is a lower-rated axle, the Dexter # T20BTR-7258 which is 58 inches from spring center to spring center and 72 inches from hub face to hub face.

I have added a link to an install video of the 3,500 lb axle and also linked a pair of help articles which I strongly recommend checking out, one on trailer suspension and the other on how to determine exactly where to position your trailer axle.
