Compatibility of Yakima Skybox 18 on Volvo XC90 with OEM Crossbars

Question:

We have a Yakima Skybox 18 and a 2017 Volvo XC90 with T-Track racks part 31454720. The Yakima mounting clamps wont fully clamp around the racks because the racks are too wide the clamp needs to be another 2inch longer. Are there replacement mounting clamps I can purchase for this Skybox that will fully go around the rack or do I need to buy a brand new Skybox? I guess another option is to buy a ski holder that clamps on the racks. Any help with replacement mounting clamps that fit the Volvo T-track racks is appreciated.

I reached out to Yakima and they said that your Yakima SkyBox 18 Rooftop Cargo Box # Y07336 should fit the OEM bars you have on your 2017 Volvo XC90. The clamps should adjust location to fit your bars. The clamps do not need to fully enclose the bar but it does need to clamp and hold tight. They specify the maximum aero bar dimensions it will fit is 3-1/2 inches by 1-11/16 inches and it will fit a crossbar spread between 24 and 42 inches center to center. There is not a conversion to the T-slots for that style mounting.

If you determine you want a different style ski/snowboard carrier. I recommend the Rhino-Rack Ski and Snowboard Carrier # RR573 which will mount to the top channel of your factory bars.
