Transporting Bikes with 2018 Kia Soul
Question:
Hey there. I have a 2018 Kia Soul. Thinking about doing a hitch and bike rack. Though about trunk mount but don't really want to mess with that especially since I will need to get in the hatch often. Can you recommend what is best? Thank you for your help.

A trailer hitch and hitch-mounted bike rack is definitely what I recommend for your 2018 Kia Soul. As you mentioned in your question this will allow you to much more easily access the rear cargo area of your vehicle and it will also push the rack and bikes back and away from your Soul so you don't have to worry about the rack leaving behind any scuffs or scratches.
Starting with the hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Class I Trailer Hitch # 24915 as long as it isn't the EV model. This will provide you with a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening with 200 pounds of tongue weight capacity. I like the Draw-Tite model over the Curt option also available for your Kia Soul because unlike Curt, Draw-Tite does not require the use of additional stabilizing straps when mounting a bike rack.
I have attached an installation video that you can use for reference.
Then for a bike rack I highly recommend the Kuat Transfer V2 # KU74FR. This is an excellent platform-style carrier that uses ratcheting hooks to secure the bikes by their front wheels without any frame contact. Its spring-loaded foot pedal also lets you easily tilt the rack back (with the bikes still loaded) for easy rear cargo access.
I have attached a short video demonstration on this bike rack that you can also check out.
