I have a 14 Ram. My which dropped off the trailer ball and broke my wires on the trailer wire. In light a new flat pin connector and wired it. All my light work except brake and running light on the trailer . I hooked it up to my Ford Explorer and all the lights work. Since you hooked up your trailer to your Explorer and the lights all worked but the trailer's brake and running lights are not working when hooked up to your 2014 Ram 1500 we can pinpoint the issue to your Ram's wiring.

Start by using a circuit tester such as # PTW2979 to test the connector on your Ram after disconnecting it from your trailer. Check the wiring going into your harness from your tail lights to see if those wires are carrying the correct signals, if not then check that wiring thoroughly to try and locate the problematic wiring. I am guessing you will find the issue here.

I've added links to a pair of help articles on trailer wiring that you may also find useful.
