Functions of Three Prongs on Battery Isolation Solenoid

Question:

Hello, I have a three prong solenoid installed in a conversion van 89 Chevy G30 that currently isnt wired to anything. Im trying to figure out how to rewire it to charge the house battery while the vehicle is running. If Im correct the two larger prongs will go to the house battery and the vehicle battery. However, Im confused on what to wire the smaller middle prong to. My guess so far is possibly a fuse that is live when the ignition is on? Do you have any resources that could help? Thank you!

The two side prongs on the Battery Isolation Solenoid # PK5231201, and likely your solenoid, are for voltage in and out to your auxiliary battery and the center connection is to the ignition power source, so it sounds like you have guessed correctly. If you take a look at the accompanying photo of Solenoid # PK5231201 it shows this.

Keep in mind that a solenoid is only designed to provide a maintenance charge so you do not drain the battery on your '89 Chevy conversion van.

To charge the battery you are still going to need a battery charger such as the CTEK MULTI US 7002 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger with Pulse Maintenance and Backup Power # CTEK56353.

I have added a link to a video review of this charger for you to take a look at.
