Different Load Range Options for Trailer Tire Size 5.70-8

Question:

I have a single axle trailer carrying a 1200# sailboat. The tires that came with it are 5.70-8 with a load range of 715# Load range B. What does the B mean and is that tire sufficient since I am buying new ones.

Load Range for tires is a way for the manufacturers to organize the relative weight capacities of their tires by size. Basically every tire size will have it's own capacity for a Load Range B for example but all that really matters is that the capacity of the tires is adequate for the weight of the trailer and it's cargo.

In your tire size of 5.70-8 the Load Range B like the part # AM10010 is 715 lbs at 50 psi. If your trailer weighed less than 400 lbs roughly this would be adequate. For a Load Range C we have the # AM10012 which has a capacity of 910 lb at 75 psi, and then for Load Range D we have the # AM10013 which has capacity of 1,075 lb at 100 psi.
