Retracting an Over Extended Shelby Trailer Jack

Question:

I have a Shelby 1,000 lb swivel trailer jack, and it got raised to full extension and now the gears wont engage to retract it. How can I get it back on the gears to retract?

What you can try to do is manually spin the inner tube of the jack to get it to free back up. Then, lower or retract the jack after it has caught the gears again. The inner tube may be spinning freely as it is maxed out and the gears are not grabbing.

If the above suggestion does not work, you may have to take the jack apart partially to retract the jack. You will want to also make sure that the jack does not begin to cross-thread after it is being retracted which will damage the jack.

There are some jacks now that are engineered to solve this problem of over extending the jack, such as the Fulton Bolt-Thru Swivel Marine Jack, part # FXP10.
