Can Weight Distribution Be Used on 2015 Ford Edge with Class III Hitch
Question:
Is it ok to use a class 3 hitch with weight distribution on a V6 powered 2015 Ford Edge and staying within the towing weight guidelines?

Expert Reply:
Yes, as long as your towing setup keeps your total loaded trailer weight within the limits of both the truck itself and the hitch that is installed on it you can use a weight distribution system so long as the hitch's safety sticker says it is approved for use with WD.
The Class III hitches we offer for your 2015 Ford Edge include both models that are rated for use with WD, such as Draw-Tite # 75234, and ones that are NOT rated for this application, such as Curt # C13234. All 2-inch hitches for your car appear on the linked page and the linked articles on hitch classes and weight distribution may be of interest to you.
When selecting a weight distribution system the key is knowing the total tongue weight (TW) of the whole setup; this includes the actual measured TW of the fully-loaded trailer PLUS any cargo weight in the Edge that is positioned behind the rear axle (say a generator or big cooler). We offer a handy scale # e99044 for measuring tongue weight easily and accurately. Once you know this total TW you can choose a system so that your total TW figure falls in the middle of its operating range.
As an example, if your loaded trailer TW were 700-lbs and you have 100-lbs of cargo behind the Edge's rear axle then this total 800-lbs of TW makes a system such as Equal-I-zer # EQ37100ET a suitable choice. This setup operates effectively over a TW range of 600 to 1000-lbs. The linked weight distribution video will give you more details on selecting a system that is correctly rated for your actual towing setup.
