Comparing the Stromberg Carlson Replacement Motors LG-196308 and LG-142178

Question:

I purchased the gearbox LG-179015 and the LG-196308 @ 6,500 lbs. for my 06 Forest River Lite Fifth Wheel. After installation, the motor sounds over worked and then blows the fuse. I think that it is the follow leg that is the problem but I want to just replace both legs. Which legs will fit my trailer and do you sell them as a set? Thank you for your time.

Both the Replacement Motor # LG-196308 and # LG-142178 have the same mounting dimensions but, like you said the 196308 has a higher weight capacity at 6,500 lbs. The only other notable difference is that the 142178 has a motor speed of 5,500 rpm while the 196308 has a motor speed of 5,430 rpm.

I would go with the higher rated motor as it will last longer because it won't be working as hard. Just be mindful thought that if your landing gear is only rated for 5,500 lbs it will be your limiting factor.

We do carry landing gear replacement sets that have both legs. For your application I recommend going with the Landing Gear Set # LG-183708 which gives you 34-7/8" of travel and is rated for up to 8,000 lbs. This is compatible with the motor # LG-196308 that you previously purchased and has weld stops that are spaced 15-1/2" apart on the inside. If the weld stop spacing matches up with what you currently have then you won't have to do any welding for the installation. You can upgrade the cage pins on this set to spring-loaded pull pins with part # LG-119113 as well.
