I may have an option for you, however the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter # RM-077-4 referenced in your question is designed for flat towing a vehicle only and not rated for use with a trailer.

Since your compressor will act more like a trailer behind your truck I recommend going with the Malone Dual Hitch Extender # MPG544 instead. The bottom receiver on this particular adapter can be used for towing a trailer and it has a maximum towing capacity of 4,000 pounds and a maximum tongue weight limit of 400 pounds.

An important thing to note though when using this or any other dual hitch adapter is that it will reduce the trailer hitch's weight capacity by 50 percent. This means if the trailer hitch on your truck has a 10,000 pound towing capacity it will be reduced to 5,000 pounds when using the adapter. You will just need to make sure the combined weight of your compressor and air hose carrier don't exceed the reduced towing and tongue weight limits on your hitch.

I have attached a short video demonstration on this product that you can also check out.
