Installing MaxxAir Roof Vent With Fan to 12V Power
Question:
I just purchased a Maxxair roof fan for the rear bedroom of our trailer. There is currently a vent without any fan and I believe the cut out is intended for a second AC unit. Unfortunately, there is no 12 vdc wiring in the install area. As an alternative to snaking wires through the ceiling, I was wondering about using a 120 vac to 12 vdc 10 amp converter. There is a 110 AC outlet very near the install location and the run would only be about a foot. Is this something tthat is reasonable or should I take the tried and tested method and start fishing wires through.

For your MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan - Manual Lift - 4 Speed - Smoke # MA00-06401K I recommend running the appropriate wire and not using a converter. Using a converter for power will make installation faster but will also give you a unit that needs to dissipate heat and that is definitely not ideal for use in a tight space. I recommend using # 16-1-1 sold by the foot to wire the unit to 12V DC power.

Hi Jason S, My cargo trailer conversion only has 120AC and I only plan to use it where shore power is available. Since current MaxxAir owners are having a common issue with the fan control board getting fried by DC supplies that spike, and so many are putting a DC volt regulator in line anyway, I am inclined just to use the AC recepticle my trailer's previous owner put at the vent opening. What extra heat the converter generates, hopefully my 6200K's thermostat will notice and the fan will kick on and exhaust it. Do you think my situation justifies the converter from a recepticle? Anything else you would consider in my case?
