Troubleshooting Two Coachsteps That Will Not Extend

Question:

My 2015 Outlaw has TWO sets of Coachstep steps. One for entry into the toyhauler garage section and one for the main entry into the RV. Both steps will not extend. This problem began when I was when the steps were in the extended position, both step switches were in the off position, and I turned the engine ignition key on. Both steps correctly auto-retracted in their respective upinch or stored position. I have not been able to get them to move since. I have tested all DC fuses under the dash and in the engine compartment. All appear fine. I have hit the battery disconnect for the house batteries and disconnected the positive terminal on the chassis battery in an attempt to reset. I have tried the door with the switches in the on and off positions. Because BOTH steps have the identical problem, I am assuming it is a common power source or ground, not step parts or motor. Can you give me any help?

Expert Reply:

If both of your Lippert Coachsteps are failing to extend it seems like you are on the money with the power or ground issue.

Start with the ground wire and make sure it is connected to a clean surface or possibly relocate it if you can and that may just solve the issue. There may also be a short in the wiring to the common power source so use a circuit tester and check to see if you are getting the appropriate voltage and look for broken or damaged wiring which you will need to replace.
