Troubleshooting 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Braking When Backing Up with Trailer
Question:
While reversing with caravan attached, the jeep brakes jerk on. When we press the button on to disconnect the rear parking sensors, it arms itself in 3 seconds and locks up brakes again. As we live on a busy road this is dangerous. We have had a 12 pin flat plug fitted to jeep and caravan

It definitely sounds like there is some kind of issue with the ParkSense sensors on your 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which are sensing the trailer or ball mount as an obstacle and automatically powering the brakes. I took a look at the online owner's manual for your 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it does state that to disable this feature you should only need to push the ParkSense switch, which is located on the switch panel below the Uconnect display. Once turned off, it should remain off until manually activated by pushing the switch again.
I did some research into this issue and it looks like your best bet is to take your Jeep into a local dealer. They may need to do some updates on the ParkSense module so that it doesn't keep automatically turning back on after disabling the feature.
